Course Description

This training program is for all livensed individuals desiring to offer substance use evaluations with adults on probation in the state of Nebraska. Participants will understand each part of the evaluation process, the standard evaluation format and compliance worksheet, education regarding ASAM criteria, the importance of collateral contacts, use of assessment instruments, writing a quality clinical impression and recommendation section. Participants will also complete a total of evaluations and receive indivualized feedback from a substance use clinician.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the essential components of a comprehensive substance use evaluation, including demographic, medical, behavioral health, legal, family/social, and substance use history sections.
  2. Apply standardized tools and frameworks—such as screening instruments, diagnostic criteria, and the ASAM Multidimensional Assessment—to develop accurate clinical impressions and recommendations. 
  3. Demonstrate the ability to complete a substance use evaluation using the Standard Reporting Format by integrating collateral information, clinical findings, and best-practice documentation standards.
